The ‘Simple’ Point & Shoot Cameras Guide

With so many options for the simple use cameras / reusable cameras / disposable cameras / single use cameras, and the confusing differences between them, we’ve complied a list and comparison of these ‘simple’ point & shoot cameras.

Hope it’s helpful.

TERMS USED FOR THESE ‘SIMPLE’ CAMERAS

1. DISPOSABLE / SINGLE USE CAMERA

  • This terms is used for cameras which are pre-loaded with film and meant to be used only once. Therefore, without the capability to rewind the film. The whole camera is usually sent for developing.
  • * It is still possible to reload some of these cameras though it would be more tedious as compared with the other cameras below.

2. SIMPLE USE CAMERA

  • A term used by lomography for their cameras. The built of the cameras are similar to the single use cameras (simple, plastic, pre-loaded, etc) but with an added rewind knob = ability to reload the camera.

3. REUSEABLE CAMERA

  • HARMAN introduced their camera, with the term ‘Reusable’, most likely due to the interest from their ‘disposable cameras’ (Ilford) and users reloading them.
  • The Harman is a simple camera that is not preloaded with film. However, it does come with 2 films in its box.

We do have a few video tutorials on reloading some of these disposable cameras / single use cameras on our youtube channel
